Ronaldinho, despite all the efforts of Blackburn, has decided to join former club Gremio. He had a choice from four clubs, three based in Brazil and has returned to his home club.
It will come as a huge blow to Blackburn's transfer plans and they have now turned their attention to Manchester City outcast Roque Santa Cruz & Blackpool captain Charlie Adam.
It has unravelled as one of the biggest transfer stories we have yet to encounter in England this January, the others being Wolfburg's Edin Dzeko on a move to Eastlands and David Beckham's sensational return to England.
Reports first emerged on Sunday, with the Daily Mirror stating that Blackburn were preparing a €6.2 million offer for the Brazilian, with a wage packet of 130,000 per week. However, Monday saw Blackburn's owner deny any involvement in such a bid, but later contradicted that statement by once again confirming that they had, in fact, submitted a bid for the playmaker.
Although yesterday there was yet another sting in the tale as AC Milan said they had not received a bid from the Lancashire club. Late last night, the messy transfer saga finally came to a close as rumors circulated Ronaldinho was agonisingly close to agreeing a contract from Gremio, fighting off interest from rivaling clubs Flamengo and Palmeiras. Nothing has yet to be confirmed but the Gazzeta Dello Sport who broke the rumors, are an extremely prestigious newspaper and I wouldn't be surprised if the rumor came true within the next couple of hours.
