Wigan Sign Adrian Lopez

Wigan have signed former Deportivo Le Coruna central defender, Adrian Lopez. Lopez had been plying his trade in Deportivo for the last 3 years and received Spanish U-19 and U-21 caps.

Deportivo unfortunately saw no reason to extend his contract last June and so he became a free agent. Wigan manager Roberto Martinez became aware of the situation and snapped him up, just in time for the January transfer window. Lopez had been training with Wigan and was due to move earlier but FIFA were forced to give him clearance first.

Roberto Martinez was reached for comment and he said

"It's great to see Adrian's desire to play for Wigan Athletic can finally be fulfilled.
"We've been waiting a while for the Fifa resolution."

Martinez then went on to the praise the young regarding his abilities.

"He is a defender who is very calm under pressure, and is a great reader of the game," explained Martinez.
"He is a player with a fantastic football education, coming through the ranks of Deportivo La Coruna and playing for Spain at Under 19 and Under 21 level, which gives him a unique development and makes him a defender with real potential."
