Hammer Time For Steve Sidwell

Sky Sports have reported that Steve Sidwell, currently at Aston Villa, is in London having a medical for West Ham.

Sidwell since leaving Reading in 2007 has failed to make an impression at the clubs he's joined. He joined Chelsea at the end of the 07 season as Mourinho looked to strengthen his defensive quadrant and when that failed, a move to Aston Villa was thought to have revived his career. In his first season he made a decent enough impression in the Midlands, and has gone on to make 45 appearances for the Villains, scoring 3 goals (as of 23rd December 2010). This season Sidwell has only featured in 3 matches due to an Achilles tendon injury and has therefore lost his place amongst the up and coming Aston Villa youth players.

It will be seen as a great signing for the Hammers as they are in desperate need of some points in order to climb off the foot of the table. Sidwell isn't the only one in the spotlight at Upton Park as there has been speculation of whether or not captain Scott Parker will leave this coming January. Parker has been linked to Liverpool to bolster their attacking unit considering Steven Gerrard has been out nearly the whole campaign thus far.
