A Window of Opportunity for Arsenal

It's been more than six years since Arsenal last won a trophy. Whether its been down to a desperate case of the  unlucky's, lack of desire or lack of commitment - nobody knows. What we do know is that Arsene Wenger has chosen nurturing talent ahead of competing for major trophies. We know what Wenger's trying to do and he's won many plaudits with his Barcelona-like approach to the game but there comes a time when you haven't won a trophy in over six years people start to doubt your ability to manage at the highest level. I know I have.

Since 2005, we've seen a steady decline to the Gunners' challenge for silverware and its mainly been down to the loss of several major players. Often, when a major player parts the club that they made the biggest contribution at, the result usually sets their fans into a state of frenzy. But on more than one occasion they - the club - seem to pull through. Just look at Marseille post Jean-Pierre Papin or Juventus post Zinedine Zidane par example. Incredibly, Marseille won the inaugural Champions League following Papin's departure and Juventus won successive Scudetto's when Zidane left. Although for Arsenal, when Viera, Pires and Henry parted terms with the Gunners, their one-time dynasty had come to an abrupt halt. It was a sad end to what was a team labelled the 'invincibles' back in 2003/04 but it was time to rebuild and reshuffle for coach Arsene Wenger. He had a difficult job on his hands. He was given the unearthly job of rebuilding - and somehow topping - a squad that had gone 49 league games unbeaten - a near impossible task for the Frenchman. He chose not necessarily to dive into transfer market head-first but to build his squad by terms of indulging in the youth team.

Of course Wenger decided to dip into the transfer market, excuse the contradiction, - mostly reinforcing his front-line with players such as Eduardo, Andrey Arshavin and Samir Nasri -  but he had other ambitions of how his Gunners could pursue silverware. That season prior to the purchase of Samir Nasri, 2007/08, had seen Arsenal finish an agonising three points behind rivals United and if they could find an apt replacement for the great Henry we could've seen them go the extra mile and reclaim what was rightfully seen as theirs. Cue the arrival of the youthful Mexican Carlos Vela. Unfortunately for him, a work permit was rejected and he was left out in the cold.

That next season the Gunners finished 4th with a total of 72 points - 18 points behind winners Manchester United - and were an abysmal 11 points worse off than the previous season despite the recent acquisitions. Arsenal couldn't seem to get a break and although they held a Champions League place the fans weren't happy. Neither were the players. They shared the disappointment at not having won a piece of silverware on more than one occasion, most recently captain Cesc Fabregas voicing his frustration on just going out and winning trophies instead of nurturing young players. He said, back in February in an interview with Spanish magazine Don Balon: "You enjoy yourself, during a phase of the championship - like this year, for example, when we were still in four different competitions. And you say to yourself 'here I have everything!' But then that final point is missing and it's then when you have to make a decision: either go out and win or develop players."

This summer could be the summer that Arsenal reverse their misfortune. But they must keep the selling to a minimum - most notably Cesc Fabregas. The La Masia graduate is an integral part of the club and he's facing the daunting prospect of leaving Arsenal and joining home team Barcelona in a bid that could be in excess of £30 million. We've heard continuous appeals from Barca players on why Cesc should rejoin the Blaugranas. Fabregas isn't the only player that's essential to keep at the Emirates this summer. Playmaker Samir Nasri has attracted a vast amount of interest from clubs abroad including, and most notably, Manchester United. The French international is creeping towards the last year in his contract and if both parties can't agree a new contract by the time season 2011/12 rolls around, the Gunners could face losing him for next to nothing next summer.

When those two scenarios are done and dusted, Arsene will then make his move in the transfer window. The Gunners are in dire need of a partner to assist Robin Van Persie as well as a central defender to cover for anybody that may become injured / sold. Their targets are rumoured to be, in defence, Blackburn's Christopher Samba, who handed in a transfer request in January, and Bolton's very own Gary Cahill, who picked up his first England cap in last year's 4-0 win over fellow Europeans Belarus. Up front, there's been rumours flying all around the place and Gervinho has been in the thick of things these past few days. There was even talk of him in London for a medical last week. Unfortunately, the rumour never materialised and all hopes of signing of Ivorian were dashed after there were reports that Lille had apparently agreed a fee with Newcastle to sell him late last week.

Say they do sign Samba, Cahill and maybe an attacking player capable of lending a helping hand to RVP,what will their fans expect? Well, primarily, as I've already stated, Champions League qualification is a must an what follows could be unprecedented. A title challenge would be welcomed as would a decent cup run but what's wanted more than anything is the capture of a major piece of silverware and it could very well happen this season if Arsenal can collect a few signings and somehow forge their way past the big guns.

Piennar Fee Accepted From Unnamed Club

David Moyes has confirmed he's accepted a bid for his creative midfielder Steven Piennar. Piennar, who's contract is due to run out in the summer, has been at Everton since 2007 and has been influential in their aim for European qualification.

It's possible Moyes is looking to cash in on Piennar's services rather than let his talent go to waste and let his contract expire. Moyes assured us today that he's received two bids for the former Bundesliga starlet and only one has been accepted. The BBC reported the club was unnamed but on the other hand we have Sky Sports saying it's Tottenham who've been given permission to hold talks with Piennar.

Piennar would be a valuable asset to any Premier League club and a move to Tottenham wouldn't be the smartest of choices for the South African international. He would face stiff competition from play maker Luka Modric, as well as rivalling Tom Huddlestone, Jermain Jenas, Niko Kranjkar and Rafael Van Der Vaart for a first team place.

Moyes spoke today of the rumors stating:

"We have had two offers and one of those has been accepted.

"We have allowed his representatives to speak to the other club, but whether it goes through or not I don't know yet."

"Pienaar is a good player and we know him very well, but this doesn't mean we need to have him play here. We are thinking about central defence."

"But if we find the right player for us, we have the possibility to buy."

Brum Agree Keane Fee

At last, salvation for poor Robbie Keane. Or is it? Today reports emerged of Irish skipper Robbie Keane on a proposed move to Birmingham. It had been an 'on-off' move prior to this week, being just pure speculation, but today's rumors confirm there has, in fact, been a bid accepted from Birmingham for the purchase of the out of form striker.

Keane has made 13 appearances this season with 11 coming as a sub, and has lost out on his place to the in form Jermain Defoe and the likes of Peter Crouch and Roman Pavuylchenko.

Keane had rejoined Spurs after a horrendous stint at Anfield and he carried that form back to White Hart Lane, earning him a place on the bench. The Irishman was loaned out to Celtic for the remainder of the 2009/10 season and made a huge impact for the Glasgow side, scoring 16 in 17 starts.

Keane returned to Spurs at he end of the SPL season but failed to retain a place on the Tottenham first team, strengthening speculation he was to leave White Hart Lane in the coming transfer window however, he remained at the club and with the arrival of Rafael van Der Vaart, fell further down the pecking order.

This January, Robbie's been continually linked with a move away from London and if things go to plan, he will be joining teammate David Bentley over at Birmingham, who's on loan having endured a disappointing season too. It will be seem as the perfect revival package for the Irish captain and will hopefully reignite Robbie's footballing career.

Transfer Talk #1

I've been busy preparing for the Peter Ball Memorial Competition so haven't really been reading into what's what the past week. Nevertheless, I will obviously continue to oblige with my one article a day policy so here it is.

I'm introducing a new segment called Transfer Thursday, a category which i will look into several of the latest transfers and loan deals that have been completed or just big transfer rumors circulating the net. So without further adu, here it is.

Today I'm going to be discussing several moves that have been made over the past couple of days and I'll give my verdict on whether or not I think it'll work out etc.

On today's panel we have Wayne Bridge, Emmanuel Adebayor, Edin Dzeko and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlin.

As Manchester City have continued to lure players to their club during this market Wayne Bridge has been left behind. A quality left back, Mancini sought elsewhere for an improved left back and bought Kolorov and Boyata relegating Bridge to third choice. This month has seen the rumors flying all over the place for the Englishman and he finally found a club willing for his services in West Ham. Bridge has passed his medical and is due to sign on loan until the end of the season. It's a good career move for Bridge as things were looking pedantic at Eastlands but that's seemed to simmer down with a part time solution moving to London.

Another Manchester City outcast features in the Transfer Thursday and it's out of sync Emmanuel Adebayor. The Togolese striker had established himself as a top player at the club following his desperate move from Arsenal in 2009. Despite initial success he's failed to build on it and has suffered heavily with the arrival of Mario Balotelli and new recruit Edin Dzeko, who signed from Wolfsburg in a deal worth £27 million. Adebayor rarely featured last term for Man City, and was becoming increasingly frustrated just sitting on the bench. Adebayor has attracted interest from Real Madrid, Liverpool and West Ham of late and if he's going anywhere I'd say it would be a move to the sunny Madrid, who've become desperate for a striker to accompany Karim Benzema and lead the line for the Galacticos.

Edin Dzeko finally completed his mega bucks move from Wolfsburg last week and wasted no time in stirring up the rivalry that exists amongst Manchester claiming "Manchester is full of City fans". Dzeko will partner Carlos Tevez up front and with David Silva providing service down that left flank you can only imagine what the tally will be between them come the end of the season. Dzeko is expected to become a thorn amongst Premier League defenders and is expected to go goal crazy as soon as he settles himself in England. There's no doubt it'll take time for the Bosnian to adapt to life in the Premier League but I, for some reason, think he won't actually pose much of a threat in the Premier League. Who knows, maybe he could prove me wrong, maybe not, but a large variety of players who arrive in the Premier League struggle to find form and are often left out because of it.

And finally today, there has been widespread speculation following Southampton youngster Alex Oxe Chamberlain. The 17 year old has recently broke into the first team for the Saints and has a similar feel to when Theo Walcott started out. Playing on the right wing, Chamberlain terrorises his opponents with his terrific pace, an asset in need over at Anfield. Liverpool are the club mainly interested in his services and a move for the youngster wouldn't do much wrong. Liverpool are in need of a decent winger and they think they might have found it here. All I can say is watch this space.

What's Next For Robbie Keane?

This week has been a whirlwind for Robbie Keane. On Monday he was heavily linked with Birmingham, and was 'in talks' with chiefs in the midlands but that deal has apparently collapsed due to Birmingham's unwillingness to meet Tottenham's £6 million demand. Next up for Keane was a potential move to South- East London as West Ham came knocking, desperate enough for anyone as they languish rock-bottom of the Premier League. Struggling Fulham have also expressed a desire to land the Irish captain with Mark Hughes admitting he is keen on landing the out of sorts Tottenham striker.

Keane has had an illustrious career to say the least, plying his trade with the likes of Inter Milan, Leeds and Liverpool and has scored over 200 goals for club and country. An Irishman from Malahide, hopes were high when he was recruited by Wolverhampton Wanderers. He stayed at the Molineaux for 3 seasons before making the move to Coventry for a fee of £6 million, a British record for a teenager. Keane once again bounced clubs as he left the sky Blues for a sensational move to Inter Milan. Keane endured a turbulent start for Milan and life in Italy was rocky for the Irish lad so when Leeds came knocking in 2001 Keane couldn't have been happier. Keane had enjoyed his first stint in Leeds but when the move was made permanent he struggled for form and when Leeds were in the midst of a finance crisis, he was offloaded to Tottenham. Keane had arguably his best ever football with the London side and has scored over 90 goals since joining in 2002.

His Irish teammates are also in crisis at their respective clubs as in the past year we've seen Shay Given, Damien Duff, Glen Whelan and Kevin Kilbane all fall out and lose their coveted first place spots.  It's a positive for Irish football though, as it will give Trappatoni fresh opportunities to inject some young blood into the side with Darron Gibson and Anthony Stokes eagerly waiting in the wings.

City Seal The Deal For Dzeko

Manchester City have finally sealed Wolfburg striker Edin Dzeko, after months of endless speculation. It was an endless game of cat and mouse prior to a deal being struck between the two sides, with City paying an earnest £26 million, or in and around that mark.

Dzeko has been prolific in recent seasons for the German outfit and boasted a fantastic tally of 58 goals and 31 assists in his past two and a half seasons, proving he's got more than just the golden boots. Dzeko had become one of the most sought after players in Europe during last summer and Manchester City decided to get ahead of the pack and have a crack at his price tag just last week. Wolfsburg, initially reluctant, had warned off any potential suitors and wanted their most prized asset to stay at the club. However, as we've come to find out sooner or later, every good player must leave their club, and City's continuous persistence finally paid off as Wolfburg succumbed to the sheer power of City's authorities.

The price had yet to be confirmed between the two clubs but they threw around random prices until the £26 million fee was met on January 1st. Dzeko flew into Manchester on the 3rd for a medical as the fine details had yet to be finalised. Earlier last night the deal was finally finalised in a deal bringing Dzeko to Manchester for a proposed four and a half year years.

Dzeko said:

"City are playing for first place in the Premier League and that is what I want. Everyone expects goals and I want to score them but most of all I want to contribute to a successful team".

Spurs Sign South African Defender Bongani Khumalo

Tottenham have completed the transfer of Bongani Khumalo from South African side Supersport United on a four-and-a-half year deal.

Khumalo had impressed at a trial for Spurs last July and impressed during the summer for World Cup hosts South Africa, scoring a goal in their 2-1 victory over a dismal France side.

Harry Redknapp has signed Khumalo on a four and a half year contract for a fee in the region of £1.5 million. Khumalo had been relatively successful back in home country South Africa for club level as he had won three consecutive titles for SuperSport United but the 23 year old is yearning for more triumph as he has now joined one of the top clubs in England.

Khumalo said:

“I’m looking to learn as fast as I can and do all I can to contribute to this wonderful team.

“All the players are very professional and very good, genuine guys and quality players. I’ve been very fortunate to just be a part of that and take in the experience so far.

“They’ve done so well this season and there are quality players all around. I just want to be part of the success.

“I want to win games here, I want to win titles – that’s what the game’s about. I’ve been fortunate to experience some success in my career back home lifting trophies and I would like to do the same here. The feeling is addictive.

“It’s a higher level, it’s not easy but I’m going to give it my best and contribute as best as I can to the team’s success.”

Khumalo could be seen as the defensive antidote for Harry's side as Ledley King, Johnathan Woodgate and William Gallas all currently hog the Spurs physio room. Khumalo is likely to feature tomorrow as Tottenham take on former Premier league rivals Charlton, a bout which should be easy pickings for Redknapp's men.

Sidwell Completes Move To Fulham

Steven Sidwell has finally sealed his move to Fulham for an undisclosed fee, after days on end of uncertainty regarding the Englishman's future. Sidwell had only arrived at Aston Villa in late 2008 in a bid to revive his career following a dismal spell at Chelsea but he's seen appearances hard to come by in the Midlands this season, often featuring irregularly.

Sidwell had looked set to join West Ham just days ago but a collapse for reasons unknown saw the former Reading star stay at Villa, only to be approached by Wolves and Fulham. Mick McCarthy had shown an interest in the versatile midfielder but Mark Hughes reacted quicker, jumping the gun, signing the midfielder for an initial six month deal but that could be  extended to 2014 if performances are consistent. Sidwell will now be competing amongst Danny Murphy, Clint Dempsey and Dickson Etuhu for a starting place and he will most likely feature this weekend as Mark Hughes' struggling Fulham side take on a relatively easy Peterborough side, a win would ensure progress into the fourth round but a loss could all but spell the end for the under fire manager who's failed to make an impression as gaffer in his inaugural season.

“I’m delighted that my move to Fulham has been finalised, and I’m looking forward to training with the squad and help the Club make steady progress up the table in the second half of the season.

"I'd also like to thank Jez Moxley, and Mick McCarthy in particular, at Wolverhampton Wanderers for being so understanding in my desire to return to London and to play for Fulham. ”

Ben Arfa Puts Pen To Paper At Newcastle

Hatem Ben Arfa has become Newcastle's first signing of the year 2011, signing on for until the year 2015 for the Tyneside club.

It was unknown whether or not Newcastle would act on having Ben Arfa at the club and he was unexpected to sign a permanent deal at Newcastle due to him only being involved in four games so far this season, courtesy of a Nigel De Jong horror tackle back in October.

Ben Arfa has been on loan from Marseille since August and only played two full games, before getting injured, causing outrage amongst England.

Ben Arfa had nothing but praise for the club and said in an official statement to the clubs website:

"I am absolutely delighted to be signing for Newcastle United on a permanent basis. During my short time at the club, I thoroughly enjoyed playing for the team and for the supporters too. This is a great club and I am very happy to be committing my future to them.

"I am getting back to fitness as quickly as I can and am really looking forward to getting back to St. James' Park, seeing the lads again and of course working with Alan Pardew and his staff.

"During my time out, I have been inundated with messages of support from fans and I want to repay them all with good performances on the pitch later this season."

Hatem Ben Afra had been a graduate of the world famous Clairefontaine academy and had spent four years at the top French club Lyon, before moving to Marseille in 2008 for €11 million and his latest move see's him move to Newcastle for an undisclosed fee.

David Beckham On The Verge Of Completing Loan Move

David Beckham has finally been given permission to join high flying Tottenham, but only on LA Galaxy's terms.

Recently Redknapp has expressed his desire to land the Englishman but speculation has cooled over the past week following The Galaxy's delay of accepting Tottenham's proposal. However, today news broke of how Galaxy have finally accepted the loan deal.

Sky Sports today claimed that 14 clubs worldwide were interested in Beckham's services but it's Tottenham who lead the pack, and at odds of 1/5 who would dare bet against them.

Redknapp has continually praised Beckham in his press conferences, saying :

“It tells you everything about the man that he could be sitting in California for three months but he wants to come and play football.

“His life is sorted and he just wants to play football, that’s why he wants to come here, he’s from the area and he said his grandad was a Spurs fan.”

“He’d be great around the place and he’d be a great role model around the place for the young players.”

The only disadvantage for this loan move is the fact that Beckham will only be available for 9-10 matches, if his move is completed in time to face former club Manchester United on January 16th and what a spectacle that would be.

Ronaldinho Snubs Blackburn To Return To Gremio

Ronaldinho, despite all the efforts of Blackburn, has decided to join former club Gremio. He had a choice from four clubs, three based in Brazil and has returned to his home club.

It will come as a huge blow to Blackburn's transfer plans and they have now turned their attention to Manchester City outcast Roque Santa Cruz & Blackpool captain Charlie Adam.

It has unravelled as one of the biggest transfer stories we have yet to encounter in England this January, the others being Wolfburg's Edin Dzeko on a move to Eastlands and David Beckham's sensational return to England.

Reports first emerged on Sunday, with the Daily Mirror stating that Blackburn were preparing a €6.2 million offer for the Brazilian, with a wage packet of 130,000 per week. However, Monday saw Blackburn's owner deny any involvement in such a bid, but later contradicted that statement by once again confirming that they had, in fact, submitted a bid for the playmaker.

Although yesterday there was yet another sting in the tale as AC Milan said they had not received a bid from the Lancashire club. Late last night, the messy transfer saga finally came to a close as rumors circulated Ronaldinho was agonisingly close to agreeing a contract from Gremio, fighting off interest from rivaling clubs Flamengo and Palmeiras. Nothing has yet to be confirmed but the Gazzeta Dello Sport who broke the rumors, are an extremely prestigious newspaper and I wouldn't be surprised if the rumor came true within the next couple of hours.

Tottenham Chase Luis Suarez

Luis Suarez has today been strongly linked with a move to White Hart Lane. He has been sensational in the Dutch 'Eredivisie' over the past couple of seasons but there are doubt whether or not his style of football would suit the Premiership.

Suarez had impressed at the World Cup alongside strike partner Diego Forlan, scoring a decent three goals in a 'Forlan' inspired campaign. Suarez does however have issues to address if he descends upon London, and was banned for seven league games this season for Ajax, for outrageously biting Otman Bakkal on the PSV Eindhoven team.

The fee is likely to break the bank for Spurs but with Robbie Keane most certainly on his way out, it seems logical. Ajax have issued privately that they would accept bids starting around €17 million and that would be considered a bargain for Harry Redknapp and Co.

Suarez was the highest scorer in the Eredivisie last year with a tremendous 35 goals, and continued that form into the World Cup, performing consistently, prior to his despicable handball to deny Ghana an extra time equaliser.

Harry Redknapp has also been in the market for a new right mid, as David Bentley prepares to leave the Lane, possibly joining Newcastle or Everton. And the replacement has been targeted as Manchester United legend David Beckham.

Harry Redknapp has expressed his desire to land the 35 year old but the only disadvantage of the potential deal would be short lived, only extending until March as that is when the MLS restarts.

Beckham himself has also stated he'd enjoy a move to London but it all depends on the approval of LA Galaxy as they could be the one potential downfall.

Beckham had player over 250 games for United before he left for the glamorous Madrid, and then signing for Galaxy in 2009.

Liverpool Plan Swoop For Eljero Elia

Eljero Elia has become the latest big name linked to Anfield following widespread speculation over reports he could end his time at Hamburg. A fee of €13 Million has reportedly been doing the rounds.

It is known that Elia is high on a list containing three to four players for Roy Hodgon as Liverpool look to move on from a disappointing finish to 2010, ending the year on a sour note - losing to Wolverhampton Wanderer, further increasing the woes on under fire boss Roy Hodgson.

Elia has endured somewhat of a troubled season so far with Hamburg, often being substituted by manager Armin Veh and failing to make an impression since his arrival from FC Twente in 2009.

It's become known that Liverpool won't just be awarded tranafer funds on demand, they'll have to lose some players too, with Ryan Babel oftenly being linked with a move away from Anfield. A list which also reportedly contains prolific Uruguayan star Luis Suarez, Liverpool need all the help they can get.

This will be an important month in the history of Liverpool FC as we are due to discover whether Roy Hodgson will get the boot, Fernando Torres will leave, or if Liverpool will actually purchase in the transfer window, boosting their chances of finishing in the top seven.

Any help would be extremely gracious for Liverpool this season as they've had a disastrous season under boss Roy Hodgson. When Rafa Benitez left,a massive hole had formed at the club and whoever took over the reigns was doomed for failure, for a club rapidly on a downward spiral and that's been the case for former Fulham boss Roy Hodgson.

Baggies' Target Federico Macheda Makes Way For Sampdoria

Frustrated Manchester United youngster, Federico Macheda, is reportedly on the brink of completing a loan deal to Sampdoria, situated in Italy. He will join on a six month deal which sees him finish the season with the Italian outfit.

West Brom manager Roberto Di Matteo had declared an interest in the young Italian but it seems like he's set to return to his home country, snubbing Roberto & West Bromich Albion. Sir Alex Ferguson had been keen for Macheda to ply his trade in the Premier League but Macheda has decided to go to Italy. Macheda will be largely compared to former striker Antonio Cassano, who has officially left for AC Milan. Macheda will be seen as the successor for Cassano and will be depended upon largely to deliver, following his match winning performances for United in the past.

"The only thing missing is the formalities,". Macheda's agent told Sky Italia:

“I hope to finish everything by tonight so the player will be available for Sunday.”

"It is 99 per cent certain he would go straight back to Manchester United.

"I think Alex Ferguson wants him back, because he considers Macheda a major European talent."

Macheda is anxious for more first team football and this move would be ideal for the youngster.

Adebayor Offered To Madrid

Spanish Newspaper, Marca, have reported that Manchester City have offered outcast, Emmanuel Adebayor to Spanish giants, Real Madrid.

It is circulating that Adebayor could spend the rest of the season at the Bernabeau in place of injured, Gonzalo Higuain, who has been ruled out for the remainder of the season. Adebayor has featured very little in this year's Premier League campaign, with Carlos Tevez & Mario Balotelli the preferred options.

If reports are correct, Jose Mourinho will make a loan bid toward the Togolese striker, with an option to buy, after he's completed his stint in Spain.

Last season, Adebayor had quite a prolific scoring record, as he netted 14 in 26 appearances in the Premier League. However, he's been much less successful this time around with the arrival of Italian, Mario Balotelli, he's only managed 1 goal in 8 appearances. Adebayor has also been linked with West Ham & Juventus of late.

Spurs Edge Closer To Landing David Beckham

Harry Redknapp yesterday spoke of his admiration to land ageing Premier League Veteran David Beckham on a three month stint from LA Galaxy. He also mentioned that David had agreed to arrive at White Hart Lane. Both clubs are now waiting on permission from LA Galaxy to loan Beckham out to the London side.

Redknapp said:

‘David could make a big impact. It’s whether Galaxy will let him go on loan. If they did we’d be interested. He’d give the whole place a lift.

"He’s been a fantastic player and someone the players would look up to and respect. He can do a job for sure. If he’s over his injury and is as fit as he thinks, then he could still play at the top level."

"I'm not sure Beckham would start in place of Aaron Lennon but Harry would definitely play him from time to time and if Lennon gets injured Beckham could get a run out as there's not much support on the right wing at White Hart Lane at the moment as David Bentley's been linked to Newcastle on a loan deal."

David Beckham is loved by many in England, most memorably Manchester, and would welcome a move back to England to aid Harry's midfield. He could also do with the fitness for March, when the MLS season to start up again.

Wigan Sign Adrian Lopez

Wigan have signed former Deportivo Le Coruna central defender, Adrian Lopez. Lopez had been plying his trade in Deportivo for the last 3 years and received Spanish U-19 and U-21 caps.

Deportivo unfortunately saw no reason to extend his contract last June and so he became a free agent. Wigan manager Roberto Martinez became aware of the situation and snapped him up, just in time for the January transfer window. Lopez had been training with Wigan and was due to move earlier but FIFA were forced to give him clearance first.

Roberto Martinez was reached for comment and he said

"It's great to see Adrian's desire to play for Wigan Athletic can finally be fulfilled.
"We've been waiting a while for the Fifa resolution."

Martinez then went on to the praise the young regarding his abilities.

"He is a defender who is very calm under pressure, and is a great reader of the game," explained Martinez.
"He is a player with a fantastic football education, coming through the ranks of Deportivo La Coruna and playing for Spain at Under 19 and Under 21 level, which gives him a unique development and makes him a defender with real potential."

Chelsea's £17 Million Bid For David Luiz Rejected

Chelsea have officially had a bid for Benfica star David Luiz turned down, who is also a target for Roberto Mancini. Cheslea had lodged a bid in the region of £17 million but had it rejected, with Benfica pointing to the higher price of £43 million, his release clause. Benfica would probably let the Brazilian go with a deal around £26 million. It seems that Ancelotti is keen to add to his defence this upcoming January with his defensive casualties and a move for David Luiz would be money well spent. Luiz is a versatile defender, as he can play centre back and left back.

Luiz has also attracted interest from Manchester City, but in fairness, who hasn't? The Mancunian club have been linked with everyone from A-Z in the world of football over the last year but have finally taken the first step in signing Wolfsburg striker, making the progression into talking possible deals with his agent.

Luiz boasts a decent tally of 70 caps for the Portuguese outfit, and has been strongly linked to the Premier League since last summer.

Villarreal Keen On Lucas Leiva

AS, situated in Spain, have reported that Spanish side Villareal are interested in Liverpool midfielder, Lucas Leiva.

Leiva had looked to have been a poor signing by Liverpool's standards but he has started somewhat of a revival whilst at the club, leaving journalists to resort that it "took him time" to adapt to life in the Premier League.

Lucas currently has a contract at Anfield until 2012 and if he continues to perform well this season he could see that contract extended, warning off any potential bids. Sporting director of Liverpool Daniel Commoli, has said that he had in fact, made contact to  renew the Brazilians contract.

Liverpool might have to resort selling the midfielder in order to generate some funds for the January transfer window as Liverpool will be limited come January.

Mourinho Planning €35 Million Bid for Cesc Fabregas

In an astonishing story broken by Madrid newspaper, Marca, it's been reported that Real Madrid manager Jose Mournho will make a move for Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas. Real will battle it out with Barca for the signing of Cesc Fabregas, which will apparently occur this coming summer for a fee reported to be in the region of €35 million.

Fabregas was the main talking point in the transfer window last time around, and was heavily linked with a move back to home club Barcelona. He was even pictured wearing a Barcelona shirt, which sparked outrage amongst Arsenal fans.

Mourinho has been looking for the perfect partner to accommodate pass master Xabi Alonso, and together they would create the world's finest midfield pairing.

Fabregas was one of Wengers first big youth signing and he has evolved as one of the greatest players ever to ply his trade at the London based club. He has scored 3 and assisted 6 this season, unfortunately hampered by injuries. He was also made captain when Thierry Henry departed for the sunny city of Barcelona in 2007.
